The Global Observatory on Academic Metrics & University Rankings (GOAMUR) was founded on a simple yet urgent premise: the world's university ranking systems have become too powerful, too opaque, and too unaccountable. For decades, a handful of commercial entities have shaped the destinies of institutions, researchers, and students through methodologies that few understand and fewer have dared to question.
We exist to change that. GOAMUR is an independent, non-partisan observatory committed to transparency, accountability, and methodological rigor in the evaluation of academic institutions worldwide.

Every metric we analyze, every methodology we critique, and every dataset we publish is fully open to public scrutiny. No black boxes. No hidden weights.

What We Stand Against
Gaming the System
Universities increasingly optimize for rankings rather than education, hiring strategically, classifying staff creatively, and prioritizing citable research over teaching quality. This distortion harms students and society.
Opaque Methodologies
When ranking agencies refuse to disclose their formulas, weightings, or data sources, they exercise unchecked power over the global academic landscape. This must end.
Commercial Conflicts of Interest
Ranking agencies that sell consulting services to the very institutions they rank operate under an irreconcilable conflict of interest. We call for full separation between evaluation and commercial services.
